भगवान नृसिंह को दो स्तोत्र
विष्णु के चौथे अवतार की उपासना
Introduction

I will now translate two hymns dedicated to Nṛsiṁha (or Narasiṁha), the Man-Lion. One of them is a «kavaca» or «Armor Mantra», while the second is a «respectful salutation». Their names are: Śrīnarasiṁhakavacam and Śrīnṛsiṁhapraṇāmaḥ.
In the Vaiṣṇava tradition, Nṛsiṁha is the fourth incarnation of Viṣṇu. His appearance is connected with Hiraṇyakaśipu, a powerful asura or demon who sought to overcome the limits of death, and with his son Prahlāda, a child deeply devoted to Viṣṇu. Hiraṇyakaśipu, the brother of Hiraṇyākṣa, harbored a deep resentment toward Viṣṇu. To obtain extraordinary power, he undertook prolonged austerities until Brahmā appeared before him and offered him a boon. Since he could not receive absolute immortality, Hiraṇyakaśipu asked to be protected from numerous forms of death. He wanted to be unable to die either by day or by night, either inside or outside a house, either on the earth or in the sky, either at the hands of a human being or an animal, and he wanted no weapon to be capable of killing him. After receiving the boon, he conquered the worlds and demanded that everyone acknowledge his authority.
However, his own son Prahlāda became a devotee of Viṣṇu. Although Hiraṇyakaśipu attempted to raise him to be loyal to his father, Prahlāda continued teaching that true security did not come from power, but from devotion to the Lord. Enraged, Hiraṇyakaśipu ordered his son to be killed. Prahlāda was subjected to weapons, dangerous animals, poison, fire, and other dangers, but he remained calm and continued remembering Viṣṇu. Finally, Hiraṇyakaśipu asked Prahlāda where his god was. The child replied that Viṣṇu was present everywhere. The king then pointed to a pillar and asked whether the Lord was there as well. When Hiraṇyakaśipu struck the pillar, Nṛsiṁha emerged from it.
Nṛsiṁha had a human form and the features of a lion. He was neither completely human nor completely animal. He appeared at the threshold, neither inside nor outside; at twilight, neither day nor night. He placed Hiraṇyakaśipu upon his thighs, which were neither earth nor sky, and killed him with his claws, which were not a conventional weapon. After killing Hiraṇyakaśipu, Nṛsiṁha remained filled with fury, and the devas hesitated to approach him. Finally, Prahlāda was brought before the Lord. The child approached without fear, and Nṛsiṁha received him with affection, bringing his fury to an end. Prahlāda did not ask for wealth, power, or revenge. His wish was to remain forever devoted to Viṣṇu, and he also prayed for his father's spiritual liberation.
Now read the Śrīnarasiṁhakavacam and the Śrīnṛsiṁhapraṇāmaḥ, and experience Supreme Delight, dear Self.
